ATTENDANCE OFFICE
MESSAGES!  LUNCH MONEY!  P.E. CLOTHES!  HOMEWORK PROJECTS! - The office CANNOT deliver messages to students except in the case of an emergency. Please understand that we do not have the staff available to deliver messages, lunch money, P.E. clothes, birthday's balloons, flowers, forgotten homework and projects, etc. We continue to want to be sensitive to the needs of our students, but at the same time we are committed to the protection of classroom instructional time. Important lessons can be learned if students are expected to be responsible for bringing their own materials to school.

REPORTING ABSENCES - If your child is absent for more than one day, each day must be cleared. YOU MUST SEND a note with your child upon their return, please make sure the note includes the student's first and last name, the dates of his/her absence, the reason for the absence and please make sure to sign the note. Your child should turn the note in to the Attendance Office before school or during brunch, not during class time. In fact, be sure that all correspondence with the school has the student's entire name and grade level on it.

OFF CAMPUS PASSES - Please do not schedule any medical, dental, etc., appointments during the school day. If possible, use the early dismissal on Tuesday for scheduling these appointments. In addition, please do not plan your vacation to begin before school lets out. If you need to take your child off campus during the day, please have him/her bring a note to the ATTENDANCE OFFICE before school. This will enable your child to be waiting for you in the office at the designated time. If at all possible, try to schedule your pick-up between classes, again to minimize interrupting class instruction. The student's schedule will be in his/her student reminder binder. A copy should be kept with parents at home and at work. It will come in handy from time to time. Students MAY NOT leave campus during school hours without a pass

LATE ARRIVALS - Students arriving after 7:57 a.m. need to report directly to their homeroom.

EXCESSIVE ABSENCES - We know there are legitimate reasons for absence and certainly support keeping students at home when they are too ill to attend. However, we know that low grades accompany excessive absences. It is our experience that students who are allowed to develop the habit of poor school attendance will experience great difficulty when they move to the high school level. If your child is not too ill to attend school, it is beneficial for him/her to attend even part of a school day to receive some instruction and pick up class assignments

HOMEWORK
Homework is assigned on a regular basis in almost every class. Class homework schedules are a part of the class syllabus which students receive from their teachers at the beginning of the school year (or semester). If you have no specific homework, you should plan to spend one hour in general review study. It is the student's responsibility to ask the teachers for the assignments when absent. Students are encouraged to use the handbook calendar for writing down homework assignments which can be shared on a daily basis with parents.

HOMEWORK FOR ABSENTEES
Students are to make up all homework which was assigned during an absence. Students who are ill are entitled to full credit for make-up work.

Generally, students are given the same number of days that they were absent to make up the work missed. Requests for homework for absentees should be directed to the Counseling Office. Homework should be requested for long term absences only (e.g., more than one week.) Homework assignments will be available in the Counseling Office after school following the day on which the request is made. For short term absences, it is suggested that students know the phone number of a friend in each class, in order to obtain assignments.

TIPS FOR CORRECT USE OF LOCKERS:
Students may only use their lockers:
  • Before School

  • During Passing Periods

  • After School

This means lockers MAY NOT BE USED during class periods.
  • Place your smaller locker card in a safe place. Keep the combination number to yourself. DO NOT TELL ANYONE ELSE YOUR COMBINATION.

  • Memorize combination as soon as possible. Practice using your locker by opening it several times before school. If you have any trouble with it and it is broken or will not open, report it to your homeroom teacher.

  • DO NOT open your locker while another student can see the dial.

  • DO NOT SHARE your locker with anyone else. Do not use another student's locker.

  • DO NOT put valuable articles in lockers, especially money. If for some reason you have a large amount of money, bring it to the Assistant Principal for safekeeping for that day.

  • DO NOT put your own padlock on locker - it's against fire regulations. You are responsible for the condition of your locker and any permanent damage will result in a fine.

  • REMOVAL OF LOCKER PRIVILEGE will result if the above rules are not followed.

The school assumes no responsibility for lost or stolen personal items.
