PE Rules & Regulations
  • Punctuality: The student must be in the locker room by the tardy bell, in assigned lineup spot and waiting for the teacher after leaving the locker room. Students are allowed these 5 minutes to change into their gym clothes. After class, students have 8 minutes to change back into school clothes.

  • Uniform: Consists of authorized Patrick Henry blue shorts and gray shirt or white T-shirt with wearer's legal last name and first name or initial printed upon them. white socks and tennis shoes for PE class (no cleats, boots, sandals, etc.). The new or incoming student must have a complete gym uniform no more than one week after enrolling.

    • Patrick Henry authorized sweat clothes properly marked with name cleared labeled, are allowed on cool days at the discretion of your teacher. Gym shorts and shirts must be worn over sweats if names are not visible.

    • Bicycle shorts are not allowed for boys or girls. At no time should undergarments or navels be visible (sagging shorts/sweats, pulled, tied, cut off shirts). Punishment is at the teacher's discretion.

    • Lost/damaged gym clothes must be replaced in a reasonable period of time (three days).

    • Your own name must be on the gym clothes you wear.

    • All gym clothes and soiled sweat clothes are to be taken home on the last day of the school week, Friday, washed by the student, and returned the first day of the following week, Monday.

    • Do not wear any article of clothing that is not part of the authorized gym uniform. Included among these are large earrings, gloves, hats (other than Patrick Henry hats), sunglasses,and bandanas. Such items are subject to confiscation. Students are never to wear any regular school clothes out to class (including under PE clothes), unless with teacher permission.

  • Locker Room:

    • No sharing of lockers, combinations, or contents. Teachers will not open another student's locker if your belongings are in that locker.

    • No glass containers are allowed in the locker room.

    • No throwing objects, food, candy, or chewing gum in the locker room or during class.

    • No loitering before, during, or after the PE period.

    • No chasing, splashing water, closing doors on other students, or any other form of horseplay.

    • Bathroom use is permitted during dressing intervals only and with permission in emergency situations at your teachers' discretion. Medical problems requiring frequent bathroom usage should be presented to the school nurse in writing. The locker rooms, including bathrooms, will be closed and locked, consequently unavailable to all students during that period with PE or without.

    • Lockers are for gym clothes and shoes only, not textbooks, or other clothing. These belong in your school hall locker.

    • No loud noises, whistling,or shrill sounds are allowed in the locker room. Padlocks on lockers will be cut off Students kicking, abusing, or tampering with lockers or marking any form of graffiti in locker room, walls, or on benches will be dealt with severely.

    • Any locker problems of a repetitious nature should be brought to the attention of your locker room supervisor. Your locker combination should be kept in a safe place. If your locker is damaged or you forget your combination during the school year, it is better to ask than to use a friend's locker. It is virtually impossible to safe guard the belongings of any student who violates the privacy of his/her own combination, or shares lockers!

  • Personal Behavior:

    • Good standards of sportsmanship are required at all times.

    • A student's best effort is required at all times.

    • No bullying, abusive language towards anyone, profanity, or conduct constituting a hazard to classmates will be tolerated.

    • Disrespect or defiance of any instructor win not be tolerated.

  • Grading:

    • The letter grade is based upon demonstrated ability in all class activities.

    • Grades will be adversely affected by excessive tardies, uniform and behavior violations, or incidents of non-participation.

    • Within the departmental policy. instructors vary slightly in grading emphasis and win explain it to their classes.

  • Medical Exclusions:
    • Medical exclusions are allowed on the basis of a parent's or physician's note describing the condition or illness, requested days of exclusion, and a phone number where parent can be reached during the working day. Verbal excuses need not be accented.

    • If physical condition permits the student to dress, and/or participate to a limited degree, the student will be expected to dress and participate in line with physical limitations.

    • When the weather is pleasant and no health hazard exists from dressing into one's gym clothes, the student may be asked to dress into his or her gym uniform.

    • Dirty, or perspiration soaked clothes, is not a legitimate non-dress excuse.

    • Students with either a medical exclusion or not dressing out in gym clothes, so-called non-dress, are still required to report to class on time, line up in an orderly fashion, and remain with the class all period.

    • Forgetting or saying you forgot your gym clothes, does not excuse you from physical activity or from dressing. Loan clothes are available.

  • Dismissal:

    • Students are to be out of the locker room and seated on the benches before the dismissal bell sounds. The bell doesn't signal dismissal; the teacher on duty will dismiss students.

    • Students are to leave the locker room through the west doors only and are not to leave the dismissal area until the teacher on duty signals dismissal.

    • During the last school period, students will stand for the bugle and then be seated prior to dismissal.

  • Miscellaneous:

    • Showers are available for all students who want to take them. Students must bring their own towels. No street clothes or horseplay is allowed in the showers. Students are to leave the locker room with dry clothes and not dripping hair.

    • On rainy days, all classes will line up quietly in gym uniform in designated areas of the gym.

    • Students are responsible for showing their absence cards to their PE teachers.

    • The PE department may restrict participation for a student who is personally abusive,blatantly defiant, disrupts class, uses profanity, refuses to take a lesser penalty, or consistently violated dress, punctuality, or hygienic policies.

    • Tardy excuses to PE must be in writing with an adult signature and time.

    • Play fighting and break dancing is not allowed in PE area at any time.

    • Radios, tape players, and CD's are not to be brought out to lineup nor left in gym lockers and do not belong in school. Grooming items should be left in gym lockers.

    • Expensive. easily damaged, or any other item of jewelry presenting a hazard to the wearer should not be worn in PE class and does not belong in school.

    • These rules are to be kept in a school notebook.
